Homers Odyssey it’s really about the man’s path towards self-realization, the path of the soul. In the story of Odyssey, the symbol of the soul is Penelope, the immortal soul. Odysseus (the human spirit, the spiritual spark), who is already married to Penelope. Is forced to descent, into the material Plane, (three-dimensional world), and after a long separation, (many reincarnations), enduring throughout a lot of hardship and tribulation, enriched with the experiences of the material world.
Returns back to the source of his origin, liberated at last.
Iliad and Odyssey symbolizes the inner struggle which man needs, to overcome. In Iliad, Odysseus is fighting for the control of his mind, and his personality. With the fall of Troy, the work on the material plane is complete. It took 10 years for the conquest of Troy, 10 is the number for the material plane. With Odyssey, starts the return, back to Penelope, the immortal soul. For the journey back to Ithaca, he will need another 10 years, for which he rejects gradually all the heavy burdens, which holds him to the material plane. The human spirit is tested and has to overcome many obstacles until the objective is reached.
1 SHIP
The ship symbolizes the man, who runs through life, with the ups and downs, with the good and the bad. Unaware, of the spiritual spark inside him. The hull of the ship symbolizes the personality of the person, the attachment to the material world, which in turn brings the implementation of the universal law of cause and effect. Wandering through the sea of life, (god Poseidon), from port, to port, from existence to existence. The sails are represented by the human spirit, which is inherent in every human being, and is the only thing that pushes us, towards the path to self- realization. The rudder is the willpower of the person, which has the freedom in deciding, the course of his life…
2 MAN ODYSSEUS
The Man Odysseus, is trapped in the three dimensional world. But has the ability to pass through the 12 obstacles, (12 months, 12 signs of the zodiac, and the 12 factors of conditioned genesis, according to the Buddhist religion, all circular in motion.) Transcending over the material world, and focusing his attention to the spiritual planes.
By controlling his personality and letting his human spirit, to determine his course.
3 ATHENA
But for that to be accomplished, he needs the help of the Goddess Athena (heavenly wisdom, divine wisdom, transcendent wisdom), symbolized by the olive tree and the owl. And together, with one’s own free will concentrate on the target. Represented by the bow, feminine energy, and the arrow, masculine energy. They lead eventually to the objective, by overcoming the obstacles. It is what they say, when a person holds on and perseveres, the whole universe supports him, and makes it happen. Athena helps those who help themselves.
4 ODYSSEUS
In reality, all the characters in the story of Odyssey, is in fact, parts of Odysseus himself, (ships, companions, obstacles, unfavorable forces), it’s the labyrinth of the human condition. It’s the personality of every person, the ego. It’s the inferior elements, the lower desires, the defects, which are rejected gradually in time. And thus drawing near, without any unnecessary luggage, to the source of his origin.
5 IMMORTAL SOUL
Odysseus, the human spirit, the spiritual spark. Succeeds after 20 years of hardship, (20 the number for liberation from the material world), by overcoming the 12 obstacles, (12 the number for the sun), to unite with the immortal soul, Penelope. He becomes a Sun Hero, surpassing mankind’s state of development.
Homers Odyssey touches, the sensitive subject of mankind’s responsibility and its ignorance, which dominates the human condition, going against, the universal laws, of the universe.
Thinking that god or somebody else is to blame, for their miseries.
While the truth of the mutter is, that it’s all their own doing, their mistakes, under the universal law of cause and effect.
Here we also have to address, the big issue of reincarnation.
The three-dimensional world is really a big school, for the spiritual being.
The human form is only useful, as the means for the objective.
The less humankind comprehends this, the more often he will come back, to this school, called planet Earth.
The objective is to develop, from human beings with a material perspective, to spiritual beings.
