A big thanks to everyone to came to visit the exhibition while it was on in London, and especially to those who managed to make it on the opening night, despite the sweltering London heat! Many thanks to the artists, the Hellenic Centre for hosting the exhibition, and to our sponsors and supporters who helped make the event a great success!
We are now getting ready for the next exhibition at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in Athens, which opens on September 9th and runs until September 18th. Hope to see you there! Photos by Martina Puntin Introducing White Garden - Ghost matter. Nathalie Vin's exploration into the achromatic colour and all the possibilities it offers. White garden is the fruit of my contemplation and fascination with light and movement and their dominance over matter. Guided by these notions as well as the unique interactive experience had by the viewer, I aim to facilitate these key components in my work. I wanted to create a work which, once exhibited would present an infinite and variable dance of light and shadows. These shadows or ghosts matter as I like to think of them become the principal actor in the whole viewing experience. They manifest and vanish depending on the angle of the light and acquire their dynamism and energy from a critical interaction with the viewer. White garden is made of multifaceted components on a white canvas and reflected light and shadows. Refugees are the Odysseus of our time. As a small contribution to their endless Odyssey, the proceeds of two works by from the Mosaic Odysseys exhibition will be donated to the NGO AGKALIA, which operates in Lesvos, the island which embraced the highest number of refugees (ΑΓΚΑΛΙΑ in greek means embrace, hug). The works are: “Safe in Lesvos, the land of the Phaeacians" by Artemis Klitsi “Homage to the refugees – No Man’s Land" by Artemis Klitsi We chose these two works because they have a direct connection with the island, as they are based on refugee photographs taken in Lesvos. The first one talks about the relief of salvation, and the second, about today’s reality: safe, yes, but still in no man’s land, trapped behind closed borders. We chose to support the efforts of AGKALIA, being a local NGO which embraces those in need in the island of Lesvos. https://www.facebook.com/NGO.Agkalia/ Lila Abdul-Rahim, refugee volunteer worker, has written the following about these works:
My name is Gold, my atomic number is 79, and my Symbol is Au. This comes from the Latin word ‘Aurum’, which means ‘shining or glowing dawn’.
I am a key element in the transmittal of electrical signals throughout the body and I am within every one of you. I amount to 0.2 milligrams of your total body weight and if form was given to me I would be a solid cube of 0.22 millimeters. I have been around forever.
