Vasso Spanou was born in Agios Kyrikos of Ikaria, one of the northeastern Aegean islands of the Archipelago. Because of her island origin she was always attracted to pebble mosaics and sought the opportunity to learn how to create her own works. She deepened her knowledge of mosaic making at “Psifidon Gnosis” mosaic center of Nikos Tolis. Vasso spends countless hours at her studio, working with the medium, giving the shape of the tesserae to her ideas and imagination. Selected artist at the “Opere dal Mondo” juried exhibition of the RavennaMosaico international mosaic festival, she has participated in many exhibitions in Greece and in Cyprus, Austria, Italy. Her works can be found in Greece, Cyprus and England. Her last pebble work of 24 square meters, decorates a courtyard in Ikaria and “Ikaros” will soon be on public view at the island. Vasso lives and works in Athens, but finds her heart in Ikaria, which she visits as often as possible. She is a member of the Hellenic Mosaic Association and the AIMC.
